NAME - thank you for your message, and welcome to Wake Forest! We look forward to getting to know your family over the next four years!
Families tend to approach early move-in in one of a few ways: 1) family moves their student in 100% for Pre-Orientation and hangs around Winston (or goes to the mountains or the beach for a couple of days and returns for official family Orientation), 2) family moves their student in 100% at Pre-Orientation but can't stay for family Orientation bc they have other kids/commitments and they go home after they move their student in, 3) family sends their student to campus for Pre-Orientation with just the bare bones necessities, and then the family comes on official move in day with the bulk of the student's belongings.
There is no right or wrong way, just what is right for your family. What I would say is that you can talk to your Deac and see what is important to them (to have you drop them off at Pre-Orientation and you go home for good vs. coming back for Family Orientation, etc.), and also what you feel like YOU need as a parent to be comfortable.
You can view the parent and family orientation sessions in the Guidebook app and then look at the schedule for parents and families to see whether the sessions feel necessary for your family. Instructions here:
- Download the 2025 New Deac Welcome Week schedule: Go to your APP or Google Play store and search “WFU Orientation Programs” to access the New Deac Welcome Week 2025 guide and view the schedule for families
If you are subscribed to the Daily Deac, you will be getting a daily dose of reminders/advice from me, so know that we use that platform to offer just-in-time thoughts that might help families. If you are not subscribed but wish to be, you can do so here: https://parents.wfu.edu/daily-deac/
Hope that helps. Be in touch if you have additional questions or if we can be of assistance to your family.
Best,
Betsy
